How “WE” Help the Community

  • Support special projects for asthma “systems change” to improve the care of children and adults with asthma. We do this using the Improvement Process and by applying the Chronic Care Model in real time.
  • Sponsor educational programs for children and families (example: The Open Airways for Schools Program, and The Asthma Friendly Schools Initiative Program)
  • Serve as a resource for information and educational materials
  • Support special projects for asthma research, data collection and case management.
  • Conduct professional education opportunities for schools and health care providers.

AFSI is a very appropriate way to address globally the issues of improving asthma care across the schools setting. It is customizable to each school district, and is very low cost. The end results are outstanding! The goal of this American Lung Association program is to educate children by keeping them healthy, in school and ready to learn. This program also provides a framework or model for community organizations and schools to assess needs, increase capabilities, and strengthen themselves as "Asthma Friendly". It has been very helpful and worth the time & committment!
